DNA Discoveries is hosted by WordPress.  Data that is collected via the site is used to enable the site to function and to provide basic analytics, such as statistics about the number of visitors, pages visited and the websites which referred visitors to the site. 

I do not operate a mailing list or routinely store or process any personal data for marketing purposes.   

If you choose to send me a message via the contact me form, you will be asked to provide me with your email address which I will use to respond to you. I will not use your email for any other purpose.

Cookies are small pieces of data, stored in text files, that are stored on your computer or other device when websites are loaded in a browser. They are widely used to ‘remember’ you and your preferences.

By purchasing Research Services from DNA Discoveries, you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. 

By contacting me via the Contact Form you consent to me responding to you.  I will maintain regular contact via email (or any other agreed method) to update you on the progress of your search.  Once your DNA search is complete I will only retain your contact details in accordance with the Privacy Policy below. 

I will discuss with you a timeline for delivering the Research Services when I agree to take on your search.  Should there be any reason that I am unable to meet this timeline (eg, website/internet disruption, personal circumstances) I will let you know as soon as possible. 

Whilst I will always use my best endeavours, I cannot guarantee that I will be able to solve your search.  If, at the end of a Research Session, I am of the opinion that it is not possible to progress further at the present time I will let you know and we will agree if/when to review the situation. 

Research hours include time spent conducting online research relating to DNA results/records/tree building and supplying/preparing feedback reports.  If it would be beneficial to purchase any further documentation (eg, certificates of birth/marriage/death) I will inform you, but you will be responsible for ordering/paying for these items.   

I want you to be happy with the Research Services I provide.  If you feel I have not lived up to your expectations, do not hesitate to contact me so that we can discuss how to resolve the situation. 

I accept payment by PayPal.  I do not have access to, or keep, your credit card details or any other financial information.  Payment is made by you, securely through PayPal.   

I work on a pay-what-you-can / pay-what-you-want basis. If you are unable to pay for my services there is no

GDPR – HMRC regulations require retention of data relating to an order for up to 7 years.  This means that if you have purchased research services from DNA Discoveries, I retain records associated with the purchase, including:

  • The date and time of the order/details of when the research was conducted
  • The name and address of the purchaser who paid for the session(s)  
  • The email address at PayPal that sent me the payment 
  • The amounts associated with the order 
  • A brief non-identifying description of the nature of your search (eg, American Birth Father)  

All research is conducted within your Ancestry account, therefore you always remain the “owner” of the data.  I only continue to be an Editor/Collaborator on your Ancestry account until the search has concluded or you decide you no longer wish to continue using my services.  You have the ability to remove my access at any point.   

I keep research notes in electronic and paper format.  At the conclusion of the research I supply you with a copy of the electronic file and destroy the paper notes.  I retain a copy of the electronic research file for one year. 

I will not disclose any of your information to third parties in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 and GDRP.  I will comply with the law by only releasing information when required by it to do so. 

Under the Distance Selling Regulations you have the right to cancel your order within 14 days if I have not started the Research Session. The cancellation period will expire after 14 days from the day that you place your order.  

You must inform me of your decision to cancel by a clear statement such as “I give notice that I cancel my order of X hours of research, ordered on (date)”. To do this, please use the Contact Form here and include your name, address, invoice details and your email address with your cancellation statement.   

If you cancel your order, I will reimburse to you the payment received from you, using the same means of payment as you used for the initial transaction.   

European law (Jan 2016) requires a link to the European ODR “Online Dispute Resolution” website to be included on all online traders’ websites. (http://ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr/
I endeavour to keep the website up-to-date but I cannot guarantee that the site and its contents are completely free of errors.  I reserve the right to modify, change, substitute or remove, with no notice, any information on this website as necessary.
